What is the etiology of patulous eustachian tube?

[A]
The precise etiology of patulous eustachian tube is yet unknown. But Kumazawa reported that the symptom of PET was disappered by stellate ganglion block procedure which increase the blood flow of head. From this fact and my data, I suppose that one of etilogic factors of PET might be the circulatory disturbance of skull base due to stressive condition.

Is another pharmacological reserch about Jia-Wei-Gui-Pi-Tang done?

[A]
Because the content analysis of these herb mixture is very difficult and expensive, several limited herbal medicines using for familiar diseases have been on close study. Jia-Wei-Gui-Pi-Tang is not a major drug among the chinese herbal medicines in Japan, and patulous eustachian tube has been thought a rare disease in ENT practice.

Is Jia-Wei-Gui-Pi-Tang available out of Japan?

[A]
Although we are available Jia-Wei-Gui-Pi-Tang as the extract in Japan, it's origin is a standard formula of Chinise medicine. There are many China-Towns in the world, and many chinese herbal pharmacies too. If these pharmacy's managere know this drug well, you may find it. But I do not comfirm it.

Is the contents of extract product is same as raw herbal mixture?

[A]
Herbal medicine is a mixture of many herbs. Most of them are some plants, and the ingredients of the plant may be different by producing district and distinct's weather. The effective power of herbal medicine may be different as the taste of wine.

[Q]
Are there any permanent side effects with Jia-Wei-Gui-Pi-Tang?

[A]
This side effect(Pseudoaldosteronism) is not permanent one. If hypokalemia occurs, serum potassium levels will be in normal level by discontinuing it.
And this side effct may occur, when the amount of glycyrrhizic acid or its salt is much (over 2.5g daily). Jia-Wei-Gui-Pi-Tang contains 1.0 g of glycyrrhizic acid in daily use.
From individual variations, I can't say there is no side effect in administration of Jia-We-Gui-Pi-Tang, but I think the frequency of it will be rare and transient.
